Activities - Activities

Development of Training Courses

 HANDS has developed different training courses and modules related to Health, Education, Gender & Development, Poverty Alleviation, Organizational Management, Project proposals development, Monitoring & Evaluation, Research, Leadership and Personality development.

In addition to developing the training courses, HANDS offers specialized services in training need assessment; training design & curriculum development; training of trainers (ToT) and training of Facilitators ( TOF), Preparation of trainees manuals, appraisals and evaluations.

Intervention at Community Level

 HANDS has supported communities in various districts such as Lamu, New Tana Delta, Tana River, Malindi, Kilifi, Mombasa, Kwale, New Kilindini, New Kinango, New Kaloleni, Taita, Taveta and New Msambweni of the Coast Province, Yatta in Eastern Province and Nanyuki, Dondo, Narok and Marich Pass in Rift Valley Province and other regions in Kenya. The intervention has been through Research, capacity building in areas such as Constitution preparation, Governance, Planning, project management, budgeting, Monitoring, Evaluation, Nutrition Surveys and various reproductive health interventions.

Capacity Building

Capacity building is an ongoing process through which individuals, groups, organizations and societies enhance their ability to identify and meet development challenges. HANDS has played a vital role facilitating the learning of various issues to the aforementioned associations. Several partner organizations do benefit from this activity as HANDS’ has a strong capacity building team with long history in strengthening systems for various partner organizations.

Youth Interventions

HANDS’ promotes and supports various youth groups such as Junior Stars Youth Projects, Teens Watch with greater involvement for behavior change from the scourge of HIV/AIDS and the vice of drugs abuse. Junior stars entry point to the youth is through soccer and sports in general. The aim is to keep the youth busy so that they may not indulge in risky behavior that may ruin their lives. Teens Watch conducts massive awareness campaign on the dangers of drug abuse in schools and other institutions and has plans to set up resource centres in all the Districts of Coast Province where the public can access information with ease.

Women Rights

HANDS works with community development groups like Sauti Ya Wanawake in Lamu District, Lunganya Women Group in Mariakani-Kaloleni District and Sauti Ya Akina mama in Kisauni District in advocating for the rights of women and other vulnerable groups in the society. A woman informed, is a woman empowered.

Orphans and Vulnerable Children

HANDS supports initiatives to promote access to health, education and social wellbeing of orphans including monitoring the progress of OVC centers like Papyrus orphans project, Saints of Hope children foundation, End Glory children’s home, Likoni school for the orphans, TWAAYF Group among others. The aim of HANDS is to   ccapacity build the aforementioned grass root organizations to be able to fund-raise and also support them in the establishment of effective monitoring and evaluation systems.

Food Security

Food security in Kenya has been a critical issue and any intervention made by any partner organization is ensured to meet the real needs of the community for sustainability.  Hands focuses on policies, and support to farmer-groups to increase demand for accountability and effective delivery of services. It also supports models for production and marketing to enhance living standards. HANDS interventions in food security involve Joint Efforts in Mpeketoni in Lamu District. HANDS’ has also continued undertaking research and evaluations for Partner organization’s that support communities with issues of food security including emergency interventions.

Fund- Raising.

HANDS Supports organizations and youthful  entreprenuers to achieve their dreams by supporting them to develop a feasible business plan and link them up with potential donors. Since most youths may not have the desired technical skills, the organization supports them in every stage of the project implementation.. Yes-Youth can if given the right support and guidance.
